The future of news and storytelling

Just-in-time Sociology

The new field of “Just-in-time sociology” tries to understand social phenomena as they unfold, mining their digital traces. Studies in this domain focuses on large-scale social movements (“Arab Spring Revolutions”, London riots, electoral campaigns, big controversies) as well as new everyday social dynamics (analyses of photographic flux on Facebook, social dynamics in on-line games, etc.). We draw a global map of methods and results of this emerging field and develop new tools to facilitate such investigation. We make also try to make relevant links between just-in-time sociology and data journalism.

Reading analytics

The DHLAB works with professional writers to investigate how writing change when you know how you are read. We explore how to capture and analyse reading analytics to model attention regimes of readers. We also work specifically on annotation strategies for digital media.
